KINS-World Breastfeeding Week Celebration 2025

Overview

World Breastfeeding Week (WBW) is a global campaign held annually from 1st–7th August to raise awareness about the critical role of breastfeeding in improving maternal and child health.
This year, Krishna Institute of Nursing Sciences (KINS), under Krishna Vishwa Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University), Karad, organised a week-long programme blending hospital-based education, community outreach, creative competitions, and interactive discussions in line with the themes set by WABA and the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare.

Objectives

Promote breastfeeding as a universal and sustainable health practice.

Build and strengthen support systems at community and facility levels.

Provide accurate, culturally appropriate counselling to mothers and families.

Engage students, faculty, and local stakeholders in creating breastfeeding-friendly environments.

Impact

Total Direct Beneficiaries: 130+ mothers & caregivers.

Faculty Involvement: 20+ educators.

Student Involvement: 40+ nursing students.

Community Engagement: Active participation from ASHA workers, ANMs, CHOs, and local leaders.

Outcomes: Improved breastfeeding knowledge, dispelled myths, and strengthened hospital-community linkages.

Alignment with National & Global Guidelines

Activities conducted in both hospital and community settings.

Messages reinforced exclusive breastfeeding for 6 months and continued breastfeeding for 2 years or beyond.

Included high-risk newborn care, expressed milk hygiene, and working mothers’ support.

Competitions and discussions encouraged youth engagement and inter-sectoral collaboration.

Conclusion

The WBW 2025 celebration at KINS showcased a model blend of education, creativity, and community partnership. By engaging multiple stakeholders, the institute reaffirmed its commitment to empowering mothers, promoting infant health, and building sustainable breastfeeding support systems in line with WABA’s vision and MoHFW’s directives.
