Krishna Institute of Nursing Sciences (KINS), Karad successfully organized a three-day Workshop on Platelet and Blood Donation from 18th to 20th May 2026 at the KVV Auditorium. The workshop aimed to enhance awareness among nursing students regarding voluntary blood and platelet donation, donor eligibility, safety measures, and the importance of blood components in patient care.

The resource person for the workshop was Mr. Veeshwajeet Kashid, CEO of TAL Blood Aid and ISBTI Goodwill Ambassador for Platelet Donation. Through engaging and interactive sessions, he elaborated on the significance of voluntary blood and platelet donation, donor eligibility criteria, types and functions of blood components, donation procedures, and common myths associated with blood donation. Students actively participated in discussions and clarified their doubts, making the sessions highly effective and informative.

The inaugural ceremony was graced by Dr. (Brig.) G. Himashree as the Chief Guest. Dr. Surekha Chavan, In-charge, Blood Centre, Krishna Hospital, and Dr. Vaishali R. Mohite, Dean, Krishna Institute of Nursing Sciences (KINS), Karad, were also present along with the resource person. The program commenced with the traditional lamp-lighting ceremony, followed by felicitation of the dignitaries and an introduction of the resource person.

During the three-day workshop, sessions were systematically conducted for various batches including B.Sc. Nursing, P.B.B.Sc. Nursing, GNM, M.Sc. Nursing, NPCC, and DNP students, along with the participating international nurses under the KVV–MERK Foundation Africa Fellowship & Training Program. The sessions effectively highlighted the lifesaving importance of blood and platelet donation and encouraged students to become advocates for voluntary donation within the community.

To assess learning outcomes, a written examination was conducted after each session. Prizes were awarded to top-performing students, encouraging active participation and knowledge retention.

The valedictory function was conducted in the presence of Dr. Sujata Kanetkar, Professor, KIMS, Karad, along with the resource person and faculty members. Feedback from participants revealed that the workshop was highly informative, interactive, and beneficial in improving knowledge and awareness regarding blood and platelet donation.

The program concluded successfully with a vote of thanks and group photographs.

Corrected misconceptions and myths associated with donation

Increased awareness about donor eligibility and safety

Motivated students to actively promote voluntary blood donation in the community

Overall, the workshop contributed significantly to developing socially responsible healthcare professionals committed to saving lives through voluntary blood donation initiatives.
