Introduction & Purpose: The Learning Resource Centre (LRC) is an integral part of the institution, committed to supporting the academic and research needs of students, faculty, and staff. It provides access to a wide range of information resources—both print and digital—to facilitate effective learning, teaching, and innovation.

The purpose of the LRC is to promote knowledge sharing, encourage lifelong learning, and cultivate an environment that nurtures intellectual growth. By offering comprehensive library services and resources, the LRC empowers its users to achieve academic excellence and advance the institution’s educational objectives.

About the Library / Learning Resource Centre (LRC): The Learning Resource Centre (LRC) at Krishna Vishwa Vidyapeeth (KIMS) serves as a focal point for academic and research excellence. It offers extensive collections of medical literature, including print and electronic journals, as well as diverse digital resources. The LRC supports students, faculty, and researchers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and innovation within the institution.

Technology & Innovation

  1. Library Automation: The Learning Resource Centre is fully automated with Koha ILMS, enabling efficient acquisitions, cataloguing, circulation, serials management, and reporting. Integrated barcode and RFID technologies ensure accurate tracking, streamlined workflows, and enhanced user services.
  • Koha web OPAC Access Modes:
  • Web Access: Secure access from anywhere on the internet (remote users)
  • Intranet Access: High-speed local access within campus (IP: 192.168.40.7)
  • Radio Frequency Identification (RFID): The LRC uses RFID for automated circulation, inventory management, and security, enabling faster transactions, reduced errors, and contactless self-service for efficient and secure library operations.
  • Barcode Technology: Alongside RFID, the LRC uses barcode technology for efficient operations, precise record-keeping, and smooth functioning where RFID is not feasible.
  1. Digital Library: A unified platform offering access to the Institutional Repository (DSpace) and 15 subscribed e-databases, available on-campus and remotely to support academic excellence and research innovation.

Library Committee: The Library Committee is a key body responsible for ensuring the smooth functioning, strategic growth, and service excellence of the University Library. It guides and oversees all library operations, policies, and development initiatives, including policy formulation, infrastructure planning, resource development, and modernization. The Committee ensures that library services remain aligned with the academic, research, and learning needs of the institution while providing high-quality, user-focused resources and facilities.

Our policies ensure fairness, efficiency, and quality in delivering academic support services.

  1. Collection Development Policy: Guides systematic acquisition and maintenance of resources, based on departmental recommendations and transparent procurement procedures.
  2. Journals Management Policy: Ensures timely subscription, renewal, processing, access, and archiving of print and e-journals.
  3. Digital Resource Policy: Covers selection, licensing, access, and maintenance of e-resources including databases, e-books, and e-journals.
  4. Preservation Policy: Protects both physical and digital materials through conservation measures, backups, and disaster preparedness.
  5. Archiving Policy: Maintains rare, historical, and back-volume collections for long-term academic use.
  6. Write-Off Policy: Defines permissible loss thresholds and procedures for damaged, lost, or outdated materials.

Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

We follow structured SOPs to ensure transparency and quality in all operations:

  • Resource Acquisition & Management – From recommendation and vendor selection to processing and circulation.
  • Journal Subscription Process – From request to binding and archival storage.
  • E-Resource Management – Evaluation, subscription, IP-based access, and usage analysis.
  • Stock Verification – Verification to ensure accurate holdings and loss management.

General Rules

  1. Maintain silence at all times.
  2. Avoid prohibited activities (smoking, spitting, loud talking, etc.).
  3. Handle materials carefully; users are liable for damages.
  4. Carry your library smart card for entry and borrowing.
  5. No seat reservation is allowed.
  6. Return books to designated places after use.
  7. Vacate seats before closing time.
  8. Follow security checks when required.
  9. Misbehavior may lead to suspension of privileges.

Digital Library: The Digital Library at the Learning Resource Centre (LRC) is a unified platform providing seamless access to a rich collection of academic and research resources in digital formats. It comprises two major components one is Institutional Repository (DSpace) and subscribed E-Databases.

The Institutional Repository (IR) is an open-source digital library platform built using DSpace. It serves as a long-term preservation and open-access system for the university’s scholarly and academic output. The repository provides access to the following collections:

  • Capacity: Up to 10 students.
  • Timings: 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (Working days).
  • Booking via Media Room Utilization Form (Dean’s signature required).
  • Requests at least 24 hours in advance, on a first-come, first-served basis.

  1. Books are issued to a department upon written request from the Head of Department.
  2. The Head of Department acknowledges receipt by signing the register maintained jointly by the Library and the department.
  3. The Head of Department is responsible for monitoring and supervising all books issued to their department.
